What is a record suspension?

A record suspension, formerly known as a pardon, allows people who were convicted of a criminal offence, but have completed their sentence and demonstrated that they are law-abiding citizens for a prescribed number of years, to have their criminal record kept separate and apart from other criminal records and will not show up on a criminal record check. Once a Record Suspension/Pardon has been approved by the Parole Board of Canada your previous criminal records cannot be accessed by anyone without written approval from you or authorization from the Public Safety Minister of Canada

What is a US entry waiver?

The United States can refuse admission to any person convicted of a criminal offence. This means that if you have a criminal record, you should obtain a US Entry Waiver to ensure that you will not be turned back at the border.

Can I apply on my own?

Absolutely. There are no requirements to use an accredited firm for your Record Suspension application and it is entirely up to you to try to complete the legal process on your own. The risk, as in any legal situation where self representation is attempted, is that time consuming mistakes can be made and essential requirements missed. Applications rejected or deemed invalid by the Parole Board of Canada cannot be submitted again until a 12 month waiting period has concluded. We help our clients ensure that their application is submitted correctly the first time around.

How long do I need to wait?

Most applications can be completed within 10-18 months from the time you first contact us. Processing times can vary depending on the complexity of each case but we treat each application as a top priority and ensure that all timelines are met.
